AVL EXCITE™ Acoustics by AVL

Calculation of Sound Radiation in Free Field from Vibrating Structures

AVL EXCITE Acoustics is a tool for the calculation of sound radiation in free field from vibrating structures such as engines and power units using the wave based technique (WBT).

AVL EXCITE Acoustics interfaces to common finite element (FE) tools for the import of the vibrating structure geometry. Pre-calculated structural vibration (surface velocity boundary condition) is also facilitated seamlessly in the NVH simulation workflow as the final step of acoustic analysis.

Why AVL EXCITE Acoustics?

Frequency Range

One acoustic model for the whole frequency range.

Optimized File Size and Memory

Optimized file size and memory demand handling large models.

Short Analysis Lead Times

Short analysis lead times from model preparation to result evaluation.

Key Features

Fully Automated Model Setup

Easy and fast preparation of the calculation model with a few clicks

Simulation Speedup

Parallelization capability for simulation speedup

High Computational Performance

High computational performance due to efficient acoustic models

Highly Efficient Sound Radiation Calculation

Using previously calculated surface velocities as input, AVL EXCITE Acoustics efficiently calculated the sound radiation in free field and provides airborne noise results which are directly comparable with measured acoustic data and legal noise limits.

Wave Based Technique

The used WBT is based on an indirect Trefftz approach expressing the dynamic acoustic pressure as a linear combination of wave functions, which exactly satisfy the homogenous Helmholtz equation.

Automated WBT Model Generation

A unique fully automated procedure has been implemented to generate the acoustic mesh starting from the unmodified structural FE mesh used for the structural vibration analysis.
