This study presents the optimization techniques and networking profiling results to further understand AcuSolve dependencies on the CPUs, communication networks, IO subsystems and the underlying hardware. The paper will review the effects by comparing various hardware using different simulation models.

RADIOSS – MADYMO Coupling For Various Impact Applications

This was a 2010 Americas HTC Presentation given by Mutaz Shkoukani from TASS Americas. The automotive and aviation industry is in need for simulation tools that allow them to analyze structural and occupant performance concurrently with increased predictability in occupant injuries. By harmonizing RADIOSS and MADYMO, both codes in a single simulation offers the best of both worlds. Traditional RADIOSS-MADYMO coupling model was generated and validated to the crash test. Occupant response data from HIII Q MADYMO model was compared to the test data. Acceptable level of correlation was achieved.

Radiator Test-Rig Multi-body Simulation - A Benchmark Study

This was a 2010 Americas HTC Presentation given by Girish Mantri from Modine. Modine has been working with Altair Engineering to evaluate Altair Multi-Body Dynamics suite. A Flexible Multi-Body Simulation of a Radiator single axis test rig is carried out to identify the von-mises stresses at critical parts in the assembly. The forces coming onto the connectors (bushings) and the stresses are compared between 2 solvers to check consistency in results. In this presentation, Modine discusses the overall efforts and result correlation between Altair MotionSolve and ADAMS solver.

Using HyperWorks to Generate Electrically Large Surface Meshes for Radar Cross Section or Antenna Placement Simulation

Radar Cross Section (RCS) and installed antenna placement are important parameters for aircraft designs. RCS is a measure of how detectable an object, such as an aircraft, is with radar. A large RCS indicates that an object, such as a jet aircraft, is easily detected.<br><br> SELEX Galileo used HyperWorks to generate arbitrarily large surface meshes, with defined electrical properties at the element level, for use with electromagnetic (EM) solvers to calculate either RCS of an aircraft or to determine where to place an antenna for optimum performance.<br><br> For this case study a fast-jet aircraft with approximately 100 million mesh elements was assessed for radar tracking and avoidance capabilities.

Lead Time Reduction using Automatic Reporting Director (ARD) for MAHLE

Mahle is one of the top automotive suppliers and one of the top 3 piston suppliers worldwide. With the recent advancements in numerical simulation and computing power, the FEA process has become a major tool to look at the reliability of different design variants. With these advancements, the reporting aspect remained a relatively unchanged process of manually creating pictures and tables with all of the different results. This presentation will look at the collaboration work between Mahle and the Altair Product Development (PD) team to customize the Automatic Reporting Director (ARD) for Mahle's requirements. The goal was to use to better utilize the engineers time by automatically generating a report with standard formats, pictures, and tables. By using the ARD tool, Mahle was able to reduce the lead time for a report from over 4 hours down to less than 1 hour.

The focus of this talk will be to take some of the mystery out of material model development for composites in the nonlinear regime including the input data necessary to develop such material models. The data for these materials is derived directly from their constituents properties. Failure criteria can also be calculated.

Global-Local Analysis using StressCheck, HyperMesh and OptiStruct

Global data, in the form of nodal loads generated during structural analyses may be output from Altair's HyperMesh or OptiStruct to represent cut section boundary conditions. This data can then be imported into StressCheck as Total Loads at Points (TLAPs) and applied to boundaries of highly detailed model for computation of local stresses, strains, stress intensity factors, buckling load factors and more.

Inclusion Matrix

The inclusion matrix enables optimizers to optionally accept available run data as an input. This can save significant time during the optimization process, as the optimizer can utilize previously run data.

Data discovery and how to seamlessly search, identify, and move material properties data using Total Materia and HyperMesh

F.tech R&D North America utilizes HyperView to investigate test results, using the data to inform decisions on methods to improve designs. This data will often be used to create reports and presentations during the development process, using images and animations generated by HyperView to illustrate particular areas of a component where additional work may be required. However, exporting these assets is a highly manual process of loading in results, positioning the model and taking screenshots. To allow its engineers to concentrate efforts on exploring and interpreting the results, F.tech R&D North America wanted a way of automating this process.

Comments on the Testing and Management of Plastics Material Data

Presentation delivered by Hubert Lobo at the CARHS Automotive CAE Grand Challenge in Hanau, Germany. This presentation reviewed our latest findings related to volumetric yield in polymers and its relationship to failure, as well as the material database technology that was created to store this kind of multivariate data and the analytical tools created to help the CAE engineer understand and use plastics material data.
