HyperMesh 12.0 New Feature Highlights

What's New in HyperMesh 12.0





HyperMesh 12.0 includes various enhancements to strengthen core competencies, domain specific tools and to improve and automate CAE processes.

Many new features have been added to build up our shell and solid meshing leadership. To reduce model building times further, an automated connectors generation method (Autopitch) and new connector realizations are available; the overall usability has been improved. Highly efficient workflows for modeling composite structures are included in this release. HyperWorks Collaboration Tools are directly integrated to enable groups to tightly work together and keep track of model variations and analysis data.

Browsers
  • Include View: Information including the file path, file type and export status can be reviewed and edited directly in the include hierarchy
  • Cross Reference Browser enhancements:
    • Show/Hide/Isolate functions allow a quick review
    • Referencing across include files
    • Support of optimization entities

  • Solid editing: Cut with plane perpendicular to an edge

Meshing
  • Mid-plane Mesh Generation is a complete workflow to directly extract a shell mesh from solid geometry including automatic thickness and offset assignment
  • Thin Solids Meshing efficiently creates meshes inside solid geometry sheet metal parts based on user specifications
  • Tetra Mesh Optimization improves an existing mesh based on user criteria
  • New Mesh Edit panel:
    • Extend: Allows a node selection to be extended to selected elements/components and automatically remesh around the intersecting junction
    • Mesh imprint: Existing elements (source) can be imprinted into a mesh (destination)


  • Bolt hole manipulation: From the Quality Index panel vary diameter and rotate meshes around bolt holes or slots interactively (including washers) An HTML Quality Index report provides detailed breakdown of the component(s) quality based on a predefined criteria file
  • CFD boundary layer meshing enhancements:
    • Multi-threading for mesh generation
    • Automatic proximity issue resolution

  • OSSmooth
    • Draw direction recovery
    • Extract ply shapes from optimization results


Composite Modeling
  • A Fibersim data reader enables users to read results of a draping simulation
  • Catia Composite Design Data (CPD) can be directly kimported
  • Fibersim and CPD data can be used in a new process to automatically transfer geometric composites information to finite elements for huge time savings in modeling time


HyperBeam
  • A shell and solid section sketcher allows users to create, draw and update shell and solid beam cross sections
  • Interactive section editing enables users to change dimensions of sections and move vertices by ‘click and drag’
  • HyperMesh View controls are available in HyperBeam


Connectors
  • Autopitch: Connector creation along flanges at a user defined pitch distance
  • Connector remeshing: For spotwelds, seamwelds and area connections, ideal quad transitions can be made upon realization. They can optionally be imprinted into the surrounding mesh. Lap and T-weld seam connections offer very detailed control over the final realizations.
  • Many new realization types for seams, spots and bolts


Model Checker
  • Check models for errors, warnings and information to avoid common modeling errors
  • Available for RADIOSS, OptiStruct and LS-DYNA interfaces


Solver Interfacing
  • Continuous updates for compatibility with latest solver versions for all interfaces
  • Cross-referencing enhancements for include files

Collaboration Tools

Available with the standard Altair HyperWorks installation, the Collaboration Tools (CT) functionalities are completely out-of-the-box, enabling users to work in a powerful and truly collaborative environment within minutes, with no additional installation or customization required.

The Explore dialog is incorporated in any HyperMesh file dialog to quickly browse and search a database and to load files into a session or save it back. The Organize Browser helps structure simulation data and keeps track of versions along a project’s life cycle. The Connect module links to PLM systems or Altair proprietary databases to enable multiple users to interact with the latest data.

  • As a new alternative to the standard Collaboration Tools library and PLM systems, users can now connect to the HyperWorks Enterprise Foundation library
  • MotionView simulation data can be managed with Collaboration Tools
  • Many enhancements, starting from better query, integration into PLM systems, to improvements on the user interface are available
